SIMPLIFY A LETTER

Never struggle through confusing paperwork alone again.

We've all read the same paragraph three times and still not known what it wants. Hospital letters, council forms, bank paperwork, small print that seems designed not to make sense.

Point your phone, take a photo, and she'll tell you what it actually means.

Illustrative demo: a fictional letter, not a real HMRC document.
It only takes a moment, give it a go.

Scams have never looked more real. When something feels off, just show it to Enid.

Updated every morning

Here's what makes her different: most AI is frozen on the day it was trained. Enid reads the latest fraud alerts from official UK sources every single morning. So she knows the scams running this week, not last year's.

FOR THE PEOPLE WHO WORRY · OPTIONAL ADD-ON

Be there, even when you can’t be.

For the days you can’t pop round, Enid fills the gap.

You can’t always be there. Work, family and distance get in the way. Family Care gives you a few gentle ways to help from your own phone, whether your loved one is using the free plan or any paid plan.

  • Share reminders. Set appointments and important reminders from your own phone, and they’ll appear in your loved one’s Dear Enid instantly.
  • Inactivity alerts. If they haven’t opened Enid for a while (you choose how long), you’ll get a quiet heads-up. Just enough to think, “I’ll give them a quick ring.”
  • Friendly check-ins. Enid says hello and checks in from time to time, so there’s always a gentle touchpoint even on quieter days.
  • Scam alerts. If Enid believes your loved one may be at risk of a scam or has already been caught out, you can be notified too, giving you the chance to step in before things get worse.

You set Family Care up together. Decide what gets shared, adjust the settings, and switch any feature on or off whenever you like.

Why I built her

Andy Frederick, founder of Dear Enid, with his grandmother.

There’s a lot of worry about technology leaving older people behind, and, too often, about it being used against them. I always felt the same tools could just as easily be turned the other way.

The clever technology scammers use to trick people can be aimed right back at them, catching a scam before it does any harm. And the same technology that’s made life more complicated can make it simpler again.

That’s really all Enid is: something powerful, pointed at helping rather than harming. I built her for the people I love, and I hope she earns a place with yours too.

Founder, Dear Enid

Designed with care

"Could anyone use this, without asking for help?"

That was the question behind every decision. Whenever the answer was no, we changed it. Large text, plain words, a warm British voice (or a male one, if that's easier to hear), and nothing to set up or remember.

And because she's always in your pocket, you can ask the things you'd never say out loud. Privately, with no one watching, and no one to feel daft in front of. That matters more than people tend to say.

We're not trying to make older adults better at technology. We're trying to make technology better for older adults.

Keep the mind ticking over

A proper challenge, every single day.

A fresh quiz and a fun game each morning. Play on your own, or with Enid to keep you company and nudge you when you're stuck.

One of the many games inside Dear Enid.

A gift that lasts

The best gift isn't always something you can wrap.

The most thoughtful gifts often aren't things at all. What many older people really want is to feel capable. To stay independent a little longer. To know someone's there on the days you can't be.

That's what Enid quietly becomes. Not a present that sits in a drawer, but someone in their corner every day, long after the wrapping's gone.

Give Enid to someone you love

Good questions

The things families ask us.

Is she suitable for someone who isn't good with technology?

That's exactly who she's for. There's no account to set up and no password to remember. You open her and start talking. If they can answer a phone call, they can use Enid.

Is she pretending to be a real person?

Never. She's an AI companion, and always honest about it. What matters isn't pretending to be human. It's being genuinely helpful, and pointing you to real people whenever something's serious.

Is my information private?

Absolutely. To answer you, she sends your message to a trusted AI provider (Anthropic) to process, in the same way that sending an email or searching the web means it leaves your device. We don't keep your conversations to build a profile of you, we never sell or share them, and the reminders you ask her to keep are stored on your own device. She will never ask for money, passwords or bank details.

Can she read and explain a letter?

Yes, it's one of the things people love most. Take a photo of a letter, bill or form and she'll explain it in plain words, or read it aloud. A few a day on Free; unlimited on Plus and Premium.

What does she sound like? Can we change her voice?

She has a warm, clear British voice. If you'd prefer, you can switch her to a male voice in the settings. A small thing that makes a real difference for anyone who finds one easier to hear than the other.

Can I help manage Mum or Dad's day from my own phone?

With the Family Care add-on, yes. You can add appointments and set reminders from your own phone, and a gentle nudge appears on theirs at the right time, without you having to ring and chase.

Will I know if something doesn't seem right?

With Family Care, you can choose a quiet heads-up if she's been inactive for a while, or an alert if she may be the target of a scam. Support, not surveillance. And always their choice what's shared.

Can she make mistakes?

Yes, like any AI she won't get everything right. For anything important, such as medical, legal or money matters, she'll encourage you to check official sources or speak to the right professional. She's there to help you understand things, not to replace the people who look after you.

Does she work on my phone?

Beautifully, on phones, tablets and computers. You don't need a special device. If you can open a web page, you can use her.

What does it cost?

She's free to use, with full scam protection on every plan, always. Plus is £5.99/month for unlimited chat, unlimited letter-reading and auto-memory. Premium is £17.99/month for life's bigger jobs. The Family Care add-on is £4.99/month and works with any plan, including the free one. Cancel anytime. Urgent help is never behind a paywall.

We all know someone who tries to do everything themselves.

Maybe it's Mum. Maybe it's Dad. Maybe it's a neighbour who insists they're "fine." Maybe it's you.

If life would feel a little easier with someone always there to ask, we'd love to introduce you to Enid.

The companion for later life.
